If you want to drive around in luxury but still enjoy the freedom of open air motoring, the Mercedes E350 Convertible is one of the few cars that can deliver; especially if you’re carrying passengers. Packed with the latest technology, the E350 really is one of the most sophisticated convertibles available today.

Key features:

Type: Convertible | Engine: V6 3.0 | Seats: 4 | Bags: 2 hand luggage
Transmission: Automatic | Sat Nav: Yes | Parking sensors: Front and rear radar

Launched in 2013, the latest convertible E-class gives you a smooth, comfortable experience. The E350’s 3.0 litre V6 engine offers more than enough power to keep keen drivers happy, and it’s also a diesel so there’s an impressive 400 lb/ft of torque on offer through the smooth seven-speed automatic gearbox. As an added bonus, it can deliver over 40 mpg.

The bold three-pointed star on the grille leaves you in no doubt that this is a Mercedes. With its large one-piece headlamps and LED running lights, the car certainly makes an impression wherever you go. The fabric roof gives it a traditional cabriolet look and also means there’s a decent amount of boot space, even with the top down.

Four-seater convertibles usually make the people in the rear seats suffer from wind buffeting, but the E350 uses a clever Aircap wind deflector. This deploys automatically above 25 mph and helps reduce turbulence in the cabin. You needn’t worry about getting caught in the rain either, as the fabric roof can be raised and lowered electrically at speeds of up to 25 mph.

There’s plenty to like on the inside, whether the roof is up or down. The trim has the solid, dependable feel that you’d expect of a Mercedes, with leather seats and smart metal trim around the fascia vents and door handles. For the driver there are clear instruments, along with audio controls on the steering wheel, and the sat nav screen is mounted high where it’s easy to see. As with all modern Mercs, the gear selector is on the steering column, freeing up the centre console for the controls of the infotainment system.

The E350 is designed to keep you and your passengers safe. There’s a clever system that watches the driver for signs of drowsiness and warns you to take a break. It also has airbags in the doors to protect against side impact, and automatic roll over protection, giving it a full five-star Euro NCAP crash rating.
